About the Role

Teach Now is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Year 1 and Year 2 at an inclusive mainstream primary school in Barnet.

You will work flexibly across both year groups, helping children aged five to seven access learning, manage emotions and build confidence and independence. Your day may include classroom support, movement breaks, transitions and supervised playground activities, with the final timetable set by the school.

You will use clear expectations, positive reinforcement and calm de-escalation strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation. Breaking learning into manageable steps will help pupils stay engaged and experience success, while close collaboration with teachers and other teaching assistants will keep support consistent.

This role would suit someone who enjoys the pace of Key Stage 1 and brings patience, energy and firm but fair boundaries. It is a varied opportunity where you can see meaningful progress in pupils confidence, participation and relationships over time.

Key Responsibilities

Provide flexible SEN support across Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms.

Help pupils access learning by breaking tasks into manageable steps.

Use agreed strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation.

Support movement breaks, transitions and classroom routines.

Encourage positive participation and interaction during supervised playground activities.

Share observations with class teachers and fellow teaching assistants to support consistent provision.

Requirements

Previous SEN Teaching Assistant experience or comparable primary SEND experience.

Experience supporting primary-aged children with behaviour and emotional regulation needs.

Confidence following individual support strategies and teacher guidance.

A calm, consistent and positive approach to behaviour support.

Sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within a school setting.

The right to work in the UK and willingness to complete an enhanced DBS and other required checks.

What the School Offers

A varied SEN Teaching Assistant role across two Key Stage 1 year groups.

Close collaboration with class teachers and fellow teaching assistants.

Experience supporting inclusion within a mainstream primary environment.

Opportunities to develop your approach to behaviour, emotional regulation and classroom support.

The chance to help young children build confidence, independence and positive relationships.
