Description:

Job title: SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH – Croydon

Location: Croydon, London

Salary: £93 - £105 per day, depending on qualifications and experience.

Start date: 9 November 2026

Contract: Full time, temporary, long term.

Hours: Term time; daily hours and assignment arrangements confirmed before placement.

For a pupil who finds school difficult, a dependable adult can make returning to a lesson feel possible. Transparency Education is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant in Croydon to support children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Your work will combine learning support with patient relationship-building. You will help children understand expectations, use agreed regulation strategies and re-engage after setbacks, working within the class teacher’s and SENCO’s plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide focused support in lessons and during changes of activity.

• Use calm language and agreed approaches to reduce escalation.

• Break learning into achievable steps and recognise effort and progress.

• Support reflection after difficulties when the pupil is ready.

• Keep factual records and report welfare concerns through school procedures.

Requirements

• Relevant experience in a school, youth work, mentoring or care setting.

• An understanding of SEMH needs and consistent professional boundaries.

• The ability to remain composed, follow support plans and work closely with colleagues.

• An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one as part of the recruitment process.

What the role offers

• A practical role connecting pupil wellbeing with classroom participation.

• The chance to help children rebuild confidence through achievable daily successes.
