Description:

SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH and Trauma Support, Rugby

Some of the children who need the most consistent adult in their life are also the ones who find it hardest to trust one. If you understand that, and you've got the patience to work through it, this role might be exactly what you're looking for.

A mainstream primary school in Rugby is looking to recruit an SEN Teaching Assistant to begin in September 2026. This is a full-time, term-time only position (30 hours per week) supporting two KS2 pupils with high-level SEMH and trauma-related needs.

The pupils

You'd be supporting two students across the school week:

* A Year 5 pupil with a looked-after/ACEs background, ADHD, and high-level SEMH needs. They have some access to the mainstream classroom.

* A Year 3 pupil with ASD and high-level SEMH needs, currently supported outside the mainstream classroom environment.

Both pupils need someone who shows up the same way every day. Your consistency is the foundation everything else is built on.

What you'll be doing

* Providing 1:1 support for both pupils across the school day, working to each pupil's individual timetable and needs

* Working within agreed behaviour and trauma-informed strategies, in close contact with the SENCO and class teachers

* Supporting learning activities, morning routines, transitions, and unstructured time

* Keeping clear, accurate records for both pupils and communicating regularly with the wider team

* Contributing to reviews and supporting any updates to each pupil's provision plan

* Maintaining calm, consistent boundaries in moments of dysregulation or distress

What we're looking for

* Recent experience (at least 6 months within the last 3 years) supporting pupils in a school setting, mainstream or specialist

* A solid understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice, and the needs of children with ACEs, ADHD, or ASD

* The ability to adapt your approach across two very different pupil profiles within the same day

* A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree in a relevant subject (such as child psychology or education) is useful, but not essential

* Practical, lived experience working with complex needs is valued as highly as formal qualifications

* Calm, grounded, and consistent in approach. This work asks a lot, and the right candidate knows that going in

What's on offer

* A long-term placement starting September 2026, full-time, term-time only

* A supportive inclusion team with SENCO oversight and clear escalation routes

* The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with children who genuinely need that consistency

Why Sprint?

If you're looking to work as a teacher in a mainstream classroom, providing day-to-day supply cover, we're probably not the agency for you. But if you're passionate about supporting students with additional needs and want a long-term role where you can build consistency and see the impact of your work every day, that's exactly what we do.
