Location: Newhaven, East Sussex
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday

Are you looking for a rewarding full-time role where you can make a genuine difference to children and young people with additional needs?
Academics are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist school in Newhaven. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous SEN experience, or an individual with a genuine passion for learning, education and supporting young people with additional needs.
You will be working closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop independence and build confidence within a structured and nurturing environment.
You will be supporting pupils with needs such as:
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC/ASD)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
ADHD and associated behavioural difficulties
Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
Emotional regulation and sensory processing difficulties
Moderate to complex learning difficulties
The role will involve:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual learning needs.
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
Encouraging communication, social interaction and independence.
Helping pupils access a differentiated curriculum.
Building trusting relationships and providing consistent, nurturing support.
Working collaboratively with teachers and the wider SEN team.
Previous experience within an SEN school, care setting or support role is desirable. We would also love to hear from candidates with backgrounds in youth work, psychology, sports coaching, mentoring or childcare who are looking to develop a career in specialist education.
