Education First are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Lambeth on a long-term basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or education professional who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and support staff to help students engage with learning, develop their independence and make progress both academically and personally. The school supports students with a range of special educational needs, and the role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to their daily lives.

The Role – SEN Teaching Assistant

* Supporting students across primary and secondary-aged settings within a specialist SEN school.

* Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with special educational needs.

* Supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, MLD and complex learning needs where required.

* Assisting teachers with the delivery of engaging and differentiated learning activities.

* Supporting students with their academic, social, emotional and personal development.

* Building positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage confidence and engagement.

* Supporting students with challenging behaviour and helping them regulate their emotions.

* Working alongside teachers and specialist support staff to meet individual student needs.

* Encouraging students to develop independence, communication and social skills.

* Supporting students both inside and outside the classroom as required.

* Assisting with sensory activities, practical learning and personalised support strategies where appropriate.

* Maintaining a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

* Previous experience working with children or young people in an SEN school, mainstream school, PRU or similar educational setting.

* Experience supporting students with SEN, ASD, ADHD, SEMH, complex needs or challenging behaviour.

* A patient, caring and resilient approach to working with students with additional needs.

* Strong communication and behaviour management skills.

* Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support is desirable.

* The ability to build positive relationships and support students' emotional well-being.

* A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning and develop independence.

* Relevant qualifications or training in SEN, education, childcare or behaviour support are desirable but not essential.

* The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team.

* Experience with Team Teach, positive handling, Makaton, PECS or personal care is desirable where relevant to the school.
