SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School

Location: Near Royston (Cambridgeshire / Hertfordshire border)

Salary: £14.00 – £15.00 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Contract: Term time only

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist independent day school near Royston. The school provides a nurturing, structured, and highly personalised learning environment for children and young people aged 6 to 19.

The school supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Autism, ADHD, complex medical needs, sensory processing difficulties, and physical disabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils feel supported, confident, and able to achieve their full potential.

The Role:

Provide dedicated support to pupils with their learning, development, and wellbeing across the school day.

Assist learners in the classroom, outdoor learning areas, community settings, and wider educational environments.

Support pupils with complex needs, including autism, PMLD, medical needs, and communication difficulties.

Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where every pupil is encouraged to thrive.

Promote independence, confidence, and life skills through consistent and individualised support.

Follow personalised education and care plans to ensure high-quality support is provided.

Assist with personal care, mobility support, and physical intervention where required.

Work flexibly as part of a wider team to meet the needs of all learners.

What We’re Looking For:

A compassionate and resilient individual with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND.

Someone who is motivated to learn, develop, and complete fully funded training opportunities.

Previous experience working in an SEN, care, education, or support role is desirable but not essential.

Strong communication skills, particularly when supporting pupils with complex communication needs.

The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual needs.

A positive attitude, patience, and commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
