SEN Teacher – SEMH School
Location: South London
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Contract: Full-Time
Setting: Specialist SEMH School
We are currently seeking a passionate, resilient and experienced SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school, supporting pupils who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is confident working with social, emotional and mental health needs, and who can create a structured, nurturing and engaging learning environment.
The Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that are appropriately differentiated to meet the individual needs of pupils. You will work closely with the wider pastoral and SEN teams to support both academic progress and personal development.
Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons
*
Supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour
*
Creating a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment
*
Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils
*
Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
*
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and engagement
*
Adapting teaching approaches to meet individual needs
*
Monitoring and assessing pupil progress
*
Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and wider school staff
*
Contributing to individual support plans and EHCP targets
*
Encouraging independence, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning
*
Maintaining high expectations while recognising individual barriers to learning
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be:

A qualified teacher with experience working with SEN and/or SEMH pupils
*
Calm, patient, consistent and resilient
*
Confident managing challenging behaviour
*
Skilled at building positive relationships with hard-to-reach young people
*
Able to create engaging lessons that encourage participation
*
Adaptable and able to respond effectively to individual needs
*
Passionate about providing pupils with positive educational experiences
*
A strong communicator and committed team player
Experience working within SEMH, PRU, alternative provision or specialist SEN settings would be highly advantageous.
Essential Requirements
*
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
*
Previous experience working with children/young people with SEN and/or SEMH
*
Strong behaviour management skills
*
DBS on the Update Service (UDS) – essential
*
Right to Work in the UK
*
Must not require sponsorship
*
Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
