Are you a specialist SEND Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with severe and complex learning difficulties? Are you looking for a new role in September? 

The Provision is an additionally resourced provision for children with autism within a mainstream school, a vibrant and rapidly-improved school in Raynes Park. Due to the acute shortage of specialist places, the Additional Resourced Provision is expanding over the next year and will become the largest specialist base within a mainstream school in South West London. They are therefore looking for a Teaching Assistant to join our team as part of this exciting journey. The school invest in their staff and can offer a range of CPD opportunities, with support and coaching from their internal specialist as well as external, specialist professionals.

The Role

In this role you will be working with a child in a 2:1 support role. You will be working with a support worker to support a child with complex autism and is also non-verbal.  

Responsibilities:

Implement activities designed by the class teacher and therapists.

Work alongside a support worker, taking the lead in this staff pairing to ensure the child receives consistent and effective support.

Requirements:

You should have an understanding of working with children with special needs from previous roles and have a true passion for supporting pupils to succeed in all areas of learning.

Experience of working with children with complex autism needs in a Special Needs School.

Ability to implement specialist communication techniques and effectively coordinate with the support worker and class teacher.

This role is offered on a full-time contract basis starting in September 2024. Part-time is also available – 2 days per week (Monday and Tuesday only).

The curriculum is designed to provide support in core subjects and foundation subjects. They use a topic-based approach to engage children and keep them motivated and develop independent skills.  The teaching method in the school is based on Attention Autism Approach. They are taught this method from Early Years Level and then adapted throughout the age groups. Attention is also paid to the social and emotional development through life skills sessions, where they incorporate zone of regulation and social thinking into daily activities with the students. Students also attend weekly recreational activities such as, Swimming, horse riding and creative art lessons as part of a varied curriculum.
