SEN Coordinator
Westminster
Full a week
£290/day
Start date: ASAP

AKTON Recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for a SEN Coordinator in the Westminster area.

This role is a hybrid role between SEN admin and SEN casework. It is a not an EHC plan writing role, but requires someone with more experience and knowledge than a general admin or business support officer as they will hold a caseload. The SEN Case Officer works closely in a pair with an EHC Coordinator to process annual reviews of EHC plans, phased transfers to post-16 provisions and deal with complex casework. The Case Officer will be a first line of contact with young people, families and settings and will also process some finance tasks such as raising purchase orders.

The Case Officer will report to the Team Manager (and on occasion to the Senior EHC Assessment and Review Coordinator who may deputise for the Team Manager).

The purpose of the role is to provide comprehensive casework management and administrative support to ensure the effectiveness of the SEN Service for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster in accordance with the requirements of the Children's & Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015.

The Children and Families Act 2014 has had a significant impact on the delivery of SEN services resulting in a fast paced, complex interpersonal environment focused on children and young people with high level and complex special educational needs, their parents/carers, schools and other professionals, and requires an enhanced level of communication and case management skills. On behalf of the Local Authority, the SEN Service administers and is responsible for statutory SEN functions contained within the Education Act 1996 and the Children and Families Act 2014 and therefore has significant contact with members of the public and other professionals from within and outside of the councils, schools and other settings.

The SEN Service needs to manage crucial interfaces with support services, including Children's Social Care and Health, as well as maintaining excellent multi agency working relationships. Therefore, service management is expected to operate in a positive, collegiate and respectful manner to ensure borough-wide service effectiveness across our services and partners.

We are the Bi-borough SEN service which means we span two outstanding Local Authorities in London; Westminster City Council and The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. The work is largely remote, but there will be whole service training and away days in the boroughs as well as requirements to visit settings as necessary with the paired EHC Coordinator so the work is not fully remote. There can be some flexibility over working times, however the expectation is that you will be available to work during office hours & will have made necessary arrangements for your childcare etc as lots of the work involves online video meetings with settings and families. Knowledge of SEN, Post-16 transfer and what makes up an EHC plan is essential. Candidates must have experience working in a statutory SEN service
