SEN Academic Tutor - Immediate Opportunities Available

Location: Berkshire and surrounding areas
Hours: Part-Time, Flexible
Pay: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)

Are you an experienced education professional with a passion for supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs?

We are working in close partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit in Wokingham to provide specialist academic tuition across Berkshire and the surrounding areas. Due to an increasing number of referrals, we are looking for compassionate, dedicated, and experienced SEN Academic Tutors to join our growing team.

About the Role

As an SEN Academic Tutor, you will deliver personalised, face-to-face academic tuition to primary and secondary-aged pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Tuition sessions may take place:

In the pupil's home
Within a community setting such as a library or learning hubYou will be responsible for:

Planning and delivering engaging, individualised academic lessons in core subjects, including English, Maths and Science where appropriate
Adapting teaching strategies to meet each pupil's learning needs and abilities
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and their families
Supporting pupils to improve confidence, resilience, motivation, and independence
Implementing strategies to overcome barriers to learning and re-engage pupils with education
Monitoring progress and providing clear feedback and reports following sessions

Who You'll Be Supporting

You will work with pupils presenting with a variety of additional needs, including:

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD
Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
Anxiety and other mental health needs
Behavioural challenges
Communication and interaction needs
Moderate and complex learning difficultiesMany of the pupils you support may have become disengaged from mainstream education and require a patient, flexible, and personalised approach to help them rediscover a love of learning.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from Academic Tutors who have:

Experience teaching or tutoring children and young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
Strong subject knowledge, particularly in English, Maths and/or Science
A good understanding of neurodiversity and additional learning needs
The ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may be reluctant to engage with education
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
Experience delivering personalised educational programmes that support both academic progress and personal developmentApplications are welcomed from qualified Teachers, SEN Tutors, SEN Specialists, Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors, Youth Workers, Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs), and other experienced education professionals.

Availability to deliver tuition across multiple days per week is advantageous due to the high volume of referrals we receive throughout Berkshire and surrounding counties.
