Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Dinnington
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: September 2026

Are you passionate about supporting young people with their emotional wellbeing and behaviour? A supportive school in Dinnington is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and make positive progress.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may need additional help with social, emotional and mental health needs. Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will help students manage their behaviour, engage with learning and develop greater confidence in the classroom.

Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

Help students manage emotions, behaviour and engagement with learning.

Work alongside teachers to support pupils in the classroom.

Build positive and trusting relationships with students.

Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive routines.

Support behaviour strategies and individual learning plans where appropriate.

Monitor pupil progress and share relevant feedback with teaching and pastoral staff.

Requirements:

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs is advantageous.

A calm, patient and resilient approach.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to establish positive professional boundaries with pupils.

A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

To work with GSL Education as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you should:

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
