SEMH Teaching Assistant – Chelmsford

1-Year Contract | September Start | Full Time

Gold Education Recruitment is currently working with a welcoming and supportive school in Chelmsford, seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September on a one-year contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide individual and small-group support, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence, independence, and positive relationships.

What You'll Be Doing

• Providing 1-to-1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
• Supporting pupils to access learning and participate positively in school life
• Building trusting and positive relationships with students
• Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence, and social skills
• Supporting children to manage emotions and challenging behaviours in a calm and consistent manner
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and parents/carers where appropriate
• Implementing individual support strategies and following pupil support plans
• Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students develop appropriate coping strategies
• Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom
• Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff

What We're Looking For

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs would be highly advantageous
• A patient, calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
• The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people
• A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
• A flexible, reliable, and professional attitude
• Graduates, Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, youth workers, sports coaches, and experienced support staff are encouraged to apply
