A specialist secondary SEMH school in Burnley is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team from September. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in SEN, youth work, care, support work, sports coaching, residential care, or mentoring, as well as graduates looking to build careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Youth Justice, or SEN Education.
The Role - SEMH Teaching Assistant
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 11-16 with needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma, and behavioural challenges.
Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will provide 1:1 mentoring, classroom support, and small-group interventions, helping pupils develop emotional regulation, improve behaviour, and engage positively with education.
You will play an important role in implementing behaviour support strategies, promoting restorative approaches, and building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. This role requires someone who can remain calm under pressure, set consistent boundaries, and become a reliable, positive role model for young people who benefit from structure and encouragement.
