Are you experienced in using de-escalation strategies to create a positive and supportive learning environment?
Do you have experience delivering interventions to help pupils overcome barriers to learning?
TeacherActive is proud to be working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) across Birmingham, supporting pupils who display challenging behaviour and require additional support with their education. The provision focuses on providing a structured and supportive learning environment, helping pupils manage their behaviour, develop positive relationships and re-engage with learning.
The PRU is looking to take on an experienced Teaching Assistant for a short-term position, with opportunities available across its Birmingham campuses. The successful Teaching Assistant will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies, while assisting with targeted interventions to improve pupils' engagement, behaviour and progress.
The successful Teaching Assistant will have:
A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 desirable)
Previous experience working in a PRU, alternative provision or supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
Strong behaviour management skills, with experience using effective de-escalation techniques
Experience delivering or supporting targeted student interventions
An understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and the barriers pupils may face in education
A patient, resilient and adaptable approach, with the ability to build positive relationships and maintain clear boundaries
