SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

Location: M30
Job Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Hours: Term Time Only
Pay: £110-£120 per day (depending on experience)

A secondary school in the M30 area is seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the team on a full-time, long-term basis.

The school provides education for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and focuses on maintaining high expectations, structured learning and positive outcomes. Staff work together to ensure students access education and develop the skills needed for future success.

The Role

Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will provide classroom and individual support to students with SEMH needs, helping them access learning and achieve their educational targets.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions.
Support students during lessons and throughout the school day.
Implement behaviour management strategies.
Assist teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records.
Follow individual support plans and risk assessments.
Liaise with teaching staff and external professionals where required.
Promote a safe and effective learning environment.

Requirements

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
Applications are welcomed from candidates with transferable experience in youth work, residential care, support work, mentoring, coaching, social care or mental health services.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage challenging situations professionally.
Reliable, adaptable and organised.
Able to work independently and within an established team.

Essential

Enhanced DBS Certificate for Child and Adult Workforce, registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
Right to work in the UK.
