SEMH Teaching Assistant

Lancaster-based candidates - £500-£650 per week + driving bonus - Full-Time - Long-Term

A specialist SEMH school is recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant based in Lancaster. Led by a dynamic, forward-thinking headteacher, the school embraces creative solutions and gives ambitious staff opportunities to develop.

The Role - SEMH Teaching Assistant

You will collect pupils in Lancaster, drive them to school and return them home. A valid driving licence is essential. The school is outside Lancaster, so travel is an integral part of this role.

You are paid from collecting your first pupil until dropping off your last pupil, including the school day and transport time. A car is provided, fuel is covered and you receive an additional financial bonus for driving duties.

At school, your SEMH Teaching Assistant duties include:

Providing 1:1, small-group and classroom support
Building trusting relationships and encouraging engagement
Supporting emotional regulation, confidence and independence
Using de-escalation strategies and consistent boundaries
Working with teaching and pastoral staff to remove barriers to learningBehaviour is generally manageable for an SEMH setting. Occasional physical intervention may be required; a calm, measured approach is essential.
