PK Education is looking for a calm, resilient and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Sheffield supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is much more than simply supporting pupils with their schoolwork.

You’ll be helping young people who may have found education difficult in the past to feel safe, build trust, regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning.

The school takes a highly personalised, relationship-led approach, with staff working hard to understand the individual needs and barriers of every pupil. Strong relationships, consistency and compassion are at the heart of the provision.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

You’ll work alongside teachers and other support staff to:

✓ Provide 1:1 and small-group support
✓ Help pupils manage their emotions and behaviour positively
✓ Build strong, appropriate and trusting relationships
✓ Encourage engagement with lessons and school life
✓ Support pupils with their social and emotional development
✓ Help create a calm, safe and consistent learning environment
✓ Celebrate progress – whether that’s academic, social or emotional

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We’d love to hear from experienced Teaching Assistants, SEND/SEMH Support Workers, Learning Mentors and Behaviour Support Assistants.

However, experience doesn't always have to come from a classroom.

If you have worked in youth work, care, residential settings, sports coaching, mentoring or other roles supporting young people, we'd still like to hear from you.

The most important things are your ability to be:

Patient. Consistent. Resilient. Positive.

You need to understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and be prepared to remain calm and supportive when a young person is having a difficult day.
