About the Role:
Step into an SEMH Teacher role where you help shape a brand-new specialist school before its first pupils arrive. You will join the founding team to plan the curriculum, prepare resources and create calm, welcoming classrooms, just a two-minute walk from Maidstone East station.
Once open, you will teach pupils aged 6 to 14 with social, emotional and mental health needs, blending education with therapeutic support. You will lead on your main specialism and grow into a second subject. If you are a calm, flexible SEMH Teacher who builds trust easily, this is a rare chance to help build something from the start.
Requirements:
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent teaching qualification
Strong primary teaching experience or expertise in a relevant secondary subject
An understanding of how SEMH needs and trauma can affect learning
The ability to plan engaging lessons adapted to individual needs
A willingness to teach at least two subjects within your first 12 to 18 months
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to curriculum planning alongside the founding team ahead of opening
Prepare teaching resources and create welcoming, well-organised learning environments
Teach pupils across Key Stages 1 to 3, with responsibilities agreed around your experience
Plan and deliver accessible, engaging lessons as an SEMH Teacher in your main specialism
Develop the confidence to deliver a second subject, such as Maths and Science or PE and PSHE
Support pupils with emotional regulation through a calm, consistent approach
Work closely with colleagues to combine education with therapeutic support
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Bring a calm, consistent presence that helps pupils feel safe and settled
Show a natural ability to build trusting, positive relationships with children and young people
Have a clear understanding of trauma-informed practice and its impact on learning
Be flexible and keen to teach beyond your main specialism
Bring energy and ideas to setting up a new school from the outset
Show a collaborative approach and enjoy working as part of a founding team
Have a genuine passion for helping pupils rebuild confidence and re-engage with learning
