Tradewind Recruitment

This role is being offered on a 12-week temp-to-perm basis, giving you the opportunity to work within the school, get to know the students and team, and demonstrate your skills before progressing into a permanent position.

We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in mental health and ideally previous experience supporting children or young people who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour, anxiety, confidence or engagement with education.

This is a rewarding role for someone who can build strong relationships while providing the consistency, patience and clear boundaries that young people within an SEMH environment may need.

Your Role Will Include:

Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and within small groups

Providing emotional and pastoral support throughout the school day

Helping students understand and regulate their emotions

Supporting young people during periods of heightened emotion or challenging behaviour

Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

Encouraging students to re-engage positively with learning

Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence

Building trusting and professional relationships

Providing consistent routines and boundaries

Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and other support professionals

Contributing to a positive, safe and supportive learning environment

What We're Looking For

We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience or knowledge in:

Mental health support

SEMH or specialist education

SEN/SEND

Behaviour support

Teaching Assistant or Learning Support roles

Youth work or mentoring

Pastoral support

Children's residential care

Social care

Psychology or counselling

Healthcare and support work

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path. Experience supporting vulnerable young people, individuals with mental health needs or challenging behaviour can provide highly transferable skills for an SEMH environment.

You will need to be calm, patient, resilient and empathetic, while also being confident maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.

Why Tradewind Recruitment?

12-week temp-to-perm opportunity

Opportunity to progress into a permanent position with the school

Competitive daily rate dependent on experience

Full-time, consistent work

Dedicated support from your Tradewind consultant

Free CPD and professional development

Free access to The National College after your first day worked

Opportunities within specialist SEN and SEMH settings

If you have a good understanding of mental health and SEMH and are looking for a long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent, we'd love to hear from you.
