SEMH Construction Teacher needed in Solihull
Are you an experienced and passionate Construction Teacher looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with SEMH needs?
A bespoke and specialist independent school in Solihull is seeking a full-time SEMH Construction Teacher to join their growing, supportive team. This unique setting caters to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, including those with attachment disorders and those who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other complex challenges.
About the School:
* A small, nurturing environment with class sizes of up to 6 students
* A team-focused, therapeutic approach to education
* A growing provision offering a highly personalised curriculum
* Delivering practical and vocational learning pathways designed to engage students who may have struggled in mainstream education
* Access to specialist workshop facilities and resources to support construction-based learning
The Role:
This is a full-time teaching position, with the potential to become temp-to-perm for the right candidate. You will be expected to plan and deliver engaging Construction lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with varying ability levels and complex emotional backgrounds.
The successful candidate will teach practical construction skills, potentially including carpentry, joinery, brickwork, painting and decorating, health and safety, and general multi-skills, while supporting students to develop confidence, resilience, employability skills, and positive attitudes towards learning.
What We're Looking For (preferably):
✔️ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or a recognised qualification in Construction, Carpentry, Joinery, Brickwork, Multi-Skills, or a related vocational subject
✔️ A minimum of 2 years UK teaching, tutoring, training, or industry experience will be considered in lieu of formal QTS
✔️ Demonstrated experience working with SEMH students, or young people with additional needs and behavioural challenges
✔️ Experience delivering vocational qualifications, practical learning programmes, or construction-based training
✔️ Strong understanding of workshop health and safety requirements
✔️ A collaborative, team-oriented mindset - strong interpersonal skills are essential
✔️ Commitment to nurturing student development, both academically and emotionally
✔️ Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced significant barriers to education
What You'll Gain:
* The chance to be part of a passionate, purpose-driven team
* Opportunities for professional growth and progression
* The opportunity to shape and develop a practical curriculum that inspires students
* A meaningful role where your work truly changes lives
If you're resilient, creative, and passionate about vocational education, we'd love to hear from you. This is an excellent opportunity to use your construction expertise to help young people overcome barriers to learning, develop valuable life skills, and achieve positive outcomes for their future.
