Section Engineer - Major Infrastructure
The Role
Our client, a leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor, is seeking an experienced Section Engineer to support the delivery of works on a major infrastructure project.
The role will involve taking responsibility for engineering control within a designated section of works, ensuring activities are delivered safely, to specification and in line with programme requirements. Candidates should have experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects for Tier 1 contractors, ideally within highways, structures or utilities.
Key Responsibilities
Manage engineering activities within an allocated section of works, ensuring delivery in line with drawings, specifications and programme requirements.
Coordinate Site Engineers, subcontractors and site teams to ensure works are carried out safely and efficiently.
Oversee setting out, dimensional control and engineering checks, resolving technical issues as they arise.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards, including reviewing RAMS and implementing safe systems of work.
Manage inspections, quality records, non-conformances and handover documentation.
Monitor progress against programme, identify potential delays and support the implementation of corrective actions.
Coordinate resources, materials and subcontractor activities to maintain productivity.
Maintain accurate site records and contribute to progress reporting, cost control and commercial documentation.
Liaise with project management, design teams and other stakeholders to resolve engineering and construction issues.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience as a Section Engineer on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Previous experience working for a Tier 1 contractor.
Strong understanding of construction engineering, setting out and quality control.
Knowledge of health and safety requirements, including Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
Experience managing engineering activities, coordinating site teams and monitoring programme progress.
Valid CSCS card.
SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
Experience on major highways or road infrastructure projects.
Background in structures, utilities, drainage, earthworks or roadworks.
Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure schemes.
ICE or IHT membership or working towards professional accreditation.
