Secondary Teaching Assistant
Prospero Teaching is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistant to support students in secondary schools across the Southampton area. This role involves working closely with teachers and support staff to help students engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve their potential both academically and personally.
You will provide a combination of 1:1 support and small‑group assistance, helping students who may require additional support with learning, organisation, confidence, or classroom engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable experience in secondary education while making a positive impact on young people's lives.
The Role:
Support teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4
Provide 1:1 support and assist with small‑group interventions
Help students remain focused, engaged, and confident in lessons
Assist teachers with classroom activities and learning resources
Support positive behaviour and classroom routines
Build strong relationships with students and staff
Encourage student participation and progress
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment
Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with young people
Patient, supportive, and approachable manner
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Able to build positive relationships with students
Adaptable and responsive to different learning needs
Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team
Backgrounds in youth work, coaching, tutoring, childcare, or education welcomed
Graduates looking to gain classroom experience encouraged to apply
Contract Details:
Position: Secondary Teaching Assistant
Location: Southampton
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: Full‑time, term‑time
Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.66 per hour
Key Stages: KS3 & KS4
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience working with young people desirable
SEN experience beneficial but not essential
Safeguarding training can be provided
