School Facilities Assistant - Secondary School
Location: Newham, East London
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time, long-term (temporary position until July 2027 - with a possible extension)

A secondary school in Newham is looking for a reliable and hardworking Facilities Assistant to join their site team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming school environment.
The Role
As a Facilities Assistant, you will work alongside the Site Manager and wider premises team to ensure the school site is well maintained and operational on a day-to-day basis.
Key responsibilities include:
Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site.
Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day running of the premises.
Ensuring classrooms, communal areas and external spaces are safe and well maintained.
Setting up and moving furniture and equipment for lessons and school events.
Carrying out regular site checks and reporting any issues or hazards.
Assisting with deliveries, contractors and visitors when required.
Supporting the opening and closing of the school site.
Helping to maintain high standards of health and safety across the premises.
Responding promptly to facilities and maintenance requests.
Carrying out other general site duties as required.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Previous experience in a facilities, maintenance, caretaking or site-based role.
Good practical and DIY skills.
A proactive and hands-on approach to work.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and organisational skills.
An understanding of health and safety within a working environment.
A reliable, professional and flexible attitude.
Previous experience working within a school or education setting would be advantageous, but is not essential.
