Description:

Do you enjoy the engineering conversation just as much as the commercial one?

Because this Sales Engineer role sits right in the middle of both.

You’ll be talking to engineers about drawings, specifications and what they’re trying to achieve, then turning those conversations into commercially sound solutions and long-term customer relationships.

And you won’t be selling something from a catalogue.

The business has been manufacturing engineered components for more than 60 years, supplying customers across Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Medical and High-Tech sectors.

The conversations here are about solving problems, understanding applications and finding the right way to manufacture something.

As Sales Engineer, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of established, high-value accounts while looking for opportunities to grow them.

Some days that means sitting down with a customer’s engineering team to understand a new requirement.

Other days you might be reviewing a drawing, preparing a quotation, supporting an NPI project or spotting another area where you can help.

You’ll become the person your customers call because you understand both sides of the conversation.

That’s an important part of this Sales Engineer role.

You’re not simply passing enquiries from customers to engineering and waiting for an answer. You’ll have enough engineering knowledge to ask good questions, challenge where needed and help shape a solution that works technically and commercially.

Internally, you’ll work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering and Supply Chain. There’s no point promising something that can’t be delivered, so communication matters.

You’ll understand what the customer needs, what the business can achieve and bring the two together.

As the Sales Engineer, you’ll also get out and see your customers. There’ll be customer visits, reviews, exhibitions and industry events, giving you the opportunity to build relationships beyond emails and Teams calls.

So, what do you need to bring?

You’ll need a mechanical engineering background, whether that’s an HNC, HND, degree or experience that has given you the same technical understanding.

You’ll already have worked in technical sales, account management or sales engineering within manufacturing, and you’ll be comfortable interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.

Experience and knowledge of working within Aerospace, Defence, Energy or other highly regulated manufacturing environments is highly beneficial.

But the important combination is technical curiosity and commercial awareness.

You’re someone who wants to understand why.

Why does the customer need it? Could it be engineered differently? Is there another opportunity within the account? How do you make sure the solution works for the customer and makes commercial sense for the business?

If that sounds like the way you naturally think, this Sales Engineer role should feel familiar.

You’ll need to be credible with customers, comfortable negotiating and organised enough to keep your CRM, forecasts and pipeline up to date.

In return, you’ll earn £37,500 - £40,000 and join an established engineering manufacturer that still has ambitions to grow.

This isn't about inheriting some accounts and simply keeping them ticking over.

As Sales Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships, uncover new opportunities and directly influence that growth.

If you’re an engineer who discovered you’re pretty good with customers, or an experienced Sales Engineer who misses having proper technical conversations, this could be worth a chat.
