Want to become a teacher but would like to gain real classroom experience first?

This two-year Salaried Teacher Training Programme offers a supportive route into teaching, combining hands-on experience in a secondary school in Bridgwater with fully funded teacher training.

You’ll earn a salary from day one while developing the practical skills, confidence and classroom experience you need to become a qualified teacher.

You’ll spend both years within the same school, allowing you to build strong relationships with pupils and staff, become part of the school community and gain a real understanding of what life as a teacher is like.

Year 1 | Build Your Classroom Experience

During your first year, you’ll work as a Cover Supervisor, gaining valuable experience across the school and developing your confidence in the classroom.

Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff, you’ll:

Supervise classes and deliver pre-prepared lessons
Support pupils with their learning and engagement
Develop effective classroom and behaviour management skills
Build positive relationships with pupils and staff
Gain experience working with different year groups and abilities
Learn from experienced teachers and school leaders
Develop the confidence and skills needed to progress into teacher training
Your first year gives you the opportunity to experience school life and develop your teaching skills before committing to formal teacher training.

Year 2 | Train to Become a Teacher

Once you’ve built your classroom experience, you’ll progress into formal teacher training and begin taking on greater responsibility.

You’ll start planning and delivering your own lessons, developing your teaching style, assessing pupil progress and learning how to create engaging lessons.

Throughout the year, you’ll receive ongoing mentoring and professional development while working towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

What You’ll Receive

As part of the programme, you’ll benefit from:

£23,000–£27,000 annual salary
