Description:

Join our Health and Safety Department as a Safety, Health & Environment Auditor and provide independent assurance across UK Power Networks and UK Power Networks Services. Reporting to the SHE Reporting and Governance Manager, you may be based at London, Crawley, Borehamwood, Maidstone, Colchester or Bury St Edmunds. This is a permanent role with a salary of £68,144 and a 3% bonus.

You will plan, lead and deliver high-quality audit assignments covering safety, health and environmental controls. You will interpret new and existing health and safety legislation and codes of practice, identify opportunities for improvement and help drive continuous improvement in safety performance and business efficiency.

You will communicate risks clearly, agree constructive management actions to address control weaknesses and guide the business on process risk and analysis arising from audits. You will provide CDM auditing services for projects, help managers meet their legal and moral SHE obligations, identify good practice for wider implementation and maintain accurate records that demonstrate compliance with external standards.

The role also includes supporting the development and delivery of the Health and Safety Audit Plan; providing day-to-day ad hoc advice on SHE management systems and compliance; project-managing new and revised procedures; contributing to risk-management reviews and incident investigations; and undertaking wider compliance activity. Working within the Central H&S Team, you will engage with all Directorates and external bodies, providing effective third-line-of-defence advice on non-electrical health and safety matters.

You must hold a Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 and, as a minimum, a NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent. You will have relevant experience auditing SHE management systems in utilities or construction, together with a strong understanding of the safety management systems and legislation relevant to utility-sector activities. You will be an effective communicator and team player who can demonstrate improvements made to SHE management systems, and you must hold a full valid driving licence.

An inquisitive mindset, strong presentation, planning and decision-making skills, and confidence using Microsoft Office software are desirable. You should be ready to question established approaches, anticipate what could go wrong and identify how processes can improve.

If you are an experienced SHE auditor who can combine rigorous assurance with practical, constructive advice, apply for Safety, Health & Environment Auditor by 24 August 2026
