Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Safeguarding Triage Officer on behalf of Luton Borough council.

Purpose of position:

Working closely with adults at risk, professionals and members of the public within and outside the Borough of Luton, you will fulfil the duties and responsibilities of Social Care Assessor in the Adult Safeguarding Team. Your role will be to receive all Safeguarding concerns into Adult Social Care, instigating the first stage of the enquiry process by analysing and processing the concern for appropriateness using the department's policies and procedures.

Within this role you will respond to complex and high-risk concerns in a timely manner to gather information from a range of agencies to protect adults at risk of abuse and neglect. You will work in the best interests of vulnerable adults, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, case law and sector led initiatives at all times.

Principal Responsibilities:

Act as the co-ordinator and initial triage function for all safeguarding concerns into Adult Social Care, gathering and analysing intelligence from partner agencies in a timely manner to fully risk assess and respond to seriousness and appropriateness on a case by case basis. You will liaise closely with the Advanced Practitioners and intervene in emergency situations to protect adults at risk of abuse or neglect by initiating the appropriate steps in the safeguarding process.
Engage with professionals and members of the public in an educational capacity, providing advice prior to concerns being made and feeding back to referrers when the safeguarding threshold is not met at the triage stage, in order to reduce inappropriate concerns into the department
Create and keep accurate and appropriate case records, statistics and information on the Adult Social Care case recording system for all concerns made, reviewing and flagging patterns of abuse to the Advanced Practitioners and/or Team Manager
Work with other professionals and partners to achieve effective joint working through initiatives that require a multi-agency approach, participating in and organising multi-agency meetings and delivering training, as required
Oversee and monitor enquiries undertaken by external providers, liaising with social workers and administration clerks to ensure these are accurately captured on the case recording system
Contribute to the development of directorate projects, strategic plans and / or Borough wide and neighbourhood projects, as required
Carry out other tasks as requested by the Safeguarding Team Manager

Skills and Experiences:

Demonstrable experience in a social care or health setting with adults, families, carers and professionals
Experience of contributing to the safeguarding of adults
Experience of analysing safeguarding information
Experience of initiating appropriate steps in safeguarding process
Able to meet deadlines and to work productively in a pressurised environment
Able to lead, co-ordinate and instigate safeguarding processes for all safeguarding concerns and concerns raised
Able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with individuals and representatives of other agencies working with or in the best interests of vulnerable adults
Able to analyse and make sound decisions within own area of responsibility
Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge, understanding and application of social care legislation, statutory guidance, case law and sector led initiatives relating to safeguarding
NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent experience
Flexible and able to occasionally work outside normal office hours in a range of public and private settings
