Revenues & Benefits Support Officer

Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Revenues & Benefits Support Officer for a temporary opportunity. This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday on a fully remote basis.

Overview:

The successful candidate will be supporting an HMRC Data Matching project and investigating Council Tax casework. The role will involve analysing and validating information from HMRC and other data sources, reviewing and maintaining Council Tax accounts, and ensuring records are accurate and compliant with relevant legislation and procedures.

Main Duties:

* Analyse and validate information received from HMRC and other data sources

* Investigate Council Tax casework and identify discrepancies

* Review and maintain Council Tax accounts using MRI (Academy)

* Process account amendments, billing and recovery activity

* Input earnings attachments and maintain accurate account records

* Investigate complex complaints and prepare detailed written responses

* Interpret and apply relevant Council Tax legislation and policy

* Use NEC Document Management to retrieve and manage records

* Liaise with customers, councillors, MPs, legal representatives and other stakeholders

* Identify errors or fraudulent activity and take appropriate action where required

* Work closely with colleagues to ensure accurate liability and appropriate recovery action

Essential Criteria:

* Previous experience working within a Revenues, Benefits or Council Tax environment

* Demonstrable knowledge of Council Tax and associated legislation

* Experience using MRI (Academy) for Council Tax administration

* Experience investigating Council Tax accounts, casework and discrepancies

* Knowledge of Council Tax recovery processes

* Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills

* Good IT skills and attention to detail
