Residential Support Worker

Hours: 160 as per rota per month

Location: North Manchester Area

Pay Scale: £10.50 - £11.50 per hour plus sleep allowance + enhanced overtime rate

Responsible to: Residential Support Worker reports to Home Manager

About Us

We are looking for Residential Support Worker to join our specialist team who would love to support our children (up to the age of 17 years old).

Childcare qualification NVQ 3/ Diploma or equivalent is desirable but if you are not qualified, don’t worry, we will support you to achieve the Level 4 Children, Young people & Families Practitioner

Duties and Responsibilities as a Residential Support Worker:

Your role will include providing care for young people in the following duties:

o Housekeeping duties such as cooking, cleaning and laundry

o Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard

o You will support the young people to ensure their physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs are met

o You will act as a role model and demonstrate positive social ways of dealing with problems

o Help young people to gain self control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding positive social behaviour

o Ensure that each young person’s care plan is followed and updated as appropriate to reflect their changing needs

As a residential support worker your duties will include:

o You will take responsibility for a small number of young people and ensure that their needs are met

o Establishing relationships which young people

o Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties

o Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress

o Being ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and reach their full potential

o Providing support for young people in their education and hobbies

o Keep accurate records and provide written reports on young people for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as requested by your line manager

o Empowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future

o Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion

o Encouraging the young person to develop links with the community, attend off-site activities and expand their personal social network

You will work as part of a great team where we ask that you:

o Be aware of the aims and objectives of the home and work together with colleagues to achieve our goals

o Attend team meetings and making a positive contribution to them

o Actively contribute to the development of the team

o Receive and store information in aa confidential way and always look at ways to improve communication

o Be willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers

o Be aware of childcare plans for all young people and provide support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the implementation of the plans

o Provide practical and emotional support to colleagues who may need your guidance and care

o Attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions with your line manager

o You should report any concerns to your line manager if you feel there are any safeguarding concerns or issues relating to the care of our young people. Please refer to the Whistle blowing policy for more information.

o Read and familiarise yourself with all policies and procedures and follow them at all time

General duties and responsibilities as a Residential Support Worker:

o You will attend young people’s meetings and contribute to them

o Drive company vehicles (current driving licence holders subject to procedures)

o You will receive full training and support to ensure you can be the best in your role. You will remain up to date with your training as part of your role.

o You will have responsibility for keeping financial records up to date appropriate to the duties of the role

o You will be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues in line with the requirements of Invigor Adolescent Care Health and Safety Policies

o You will carry out all other reasonable tasks as requested by your line manager

Person Specification for a Residential Support Worker

Essential – To have knowledge and or experience of working with children and young people, ideally in managing challenging behaviours

Desirable - Childcare qualification NVQ 3/ Diploma or equivalent

Qualifications:

· Secondary Education

· Good Literacy/Numeracy Skills (English & Maths qualifications)

· Current clean driving licence

· Sports/ activity qualification (desirable)

As part of your role, you will have the following knowledge and skills:

o You must be suitable to work with children & young people within a care setting (pre-employment checks will be carried out as part of our onboarding process)

o Have the ability to relate to and communicate with young people, forming and maintaining appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with young people

o Have an awareness of young people’s needs

o An awareness of safeguarding issues and ability to safeguard the welfare of young people

o The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

o Ability to work under your own initiative

o Ability to take direction and work as part of a team

o Ability to work in partnership and liaise with other professionals

o Ability to recognise your own training needs and speak to your line manager to request any needed training

o Good emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours

o Understanding of Equal Opportunities and Anti - Discriminatory practice issues

o Understand challenging behaviours and methods of control

o Awareness of Quality Standards

o Knowledge of childcare legislation

o You will have training qualifications in Residential Childcare

Your work pattern:

o You will work 8 hour shifts

o You will work a rolling five week rota with shifts over 7 days, with enhanced overtime rates of pay
