Groundworks & Civil Engineering
Role Overview
Our client is a well-established and growing groundworks and civil engineering subcontractor operating across the Southeast. Delivering residential, infrastructure and commercial schemes, they have built long-standing relationships with developers and repeat clients through consistent, high-quality delivery.
With a strong order book and a pipeline of secured residential groundwork projects, the business is continuing to expand and is looking to strengthen its commercial team.
The Opportunity
Due to sustained growth, the company is looking to appoint both Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors to support the commercial delivery of multiple groundwork and civil engineering schemes across the region.
You’ll be reporting into the Commercial Director, working closely with operational teams and playing a key role in project delivery from procurement through to final account.
* Quantity Surveyor level: Ideal for someone looking to develop their career within a supportive environment, gaining exposure across the full project lifecycle.
* Senior Quantity Surveyor level: Suited to an experienced professional capable of managing multiple projects independently and contributing to commercial strategy while mentoring junior staff.
Projects typically include residential groundworks packages such as roads, drainage, foundations, infrastructure and associated external works.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial management of groundwork and civil engineering projects.
* Preparation of valuations and applications for payment.
* Cost reporting, forecasting and cost/value reconciliations.
* Procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
* Management of variations, change control and compensation events.
* Contract administration and maintaining accurate project records.
* Preparation and agreement of final accounts.
* Monitoring risks and identifying commercial opportunities.
* Client and stakeholder liaison.
Additional (Senior level):
* Managing multiple projects simultaneously.
* Leading commercial strategy on schemes.
* Mentoring and developing junior surveyors.
About You
* Experience within groundworks, civil engineering, infrastructure or residential construction.
* Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost management.
* Good knowledge of subcontractor procurement and contract administration.
* Excellent communication, negotiation and reporting skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a project team.
For Senior QS applicants:
* Proven experience operating at Senior QS level.
* Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
* Strong contractual and commercial expertise.
* Leadership or mentoring experience.
