Description:

About the Role

As my client continues to expand into large-scale solar farm development, they're looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial and financial aspects of our growing renewable energy portfolio alongside our HVAC projects.

The role will cover solar rooftop, utility-scale solar farm, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), ASHP & GSHP projects across the UK, taking responsibility for contract negotiation, applications for payment, subcontract procurement, valuations and project cost control.

The successful candidate will ideally come from a mechanical and electrical (M&E) background, with experience of civil engineering works associated with solar farm construction.

Working closely with the director and project delivery teams, you will manage commercial risks, maintain accurate financial forecasts and protect project profitability from contract award through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

* Review and negotiate construction contracts with clients and developers, agreeing clear scopes, commercial terms and payment arrangements.

* Prepare and submit applications for payment, supported by accurate valuations of completed works, materials and variations.

* Monitor payment certificates, outstanding payments and retention, following up with clients to support cash flow.

* Obtain and compare subcontractor quotations, negotiate prices and terms, and prepare subcontract orders with clearly defined scopes.

* Assess subcontractor applications for payment against completed works and agreed contract terms.

* Review and negotiate subcontractor variations, recommend payments and agree final accounts.

* Establish project budgets and track labour, materials, plant and subcontract costs.

* Prepare regular cost reports, cash flow forecasts and assessments of anticipated final costs and project profitability.

* Identify, price, submit and negotiate variations, maintaining records to support recovery of additional costs.

* Manage contractual notices, deadlines and records supporting claims for additional costs and extensions of time.

* Work closely with project and site managers to monitor progress, identify commercial risks and resolve scope gaps.

* Support tender pricing and the commercial evaluation of M&E and civil engineering packages, including electrical infrastructure, groundworks, trenching, access roads and drainage.

* Identify opportunities for procurement savings and value engineering while maintaining project quality and requirements.

* Negotiate and agree client final accounts and manage the release of retention.

Required Experience & Skills

* Proven experience in a contractor-side Quantity Surveyor role.

* Strong knowledge of construction contracts, applications for payment, valuations and final accounts.

* Experience procuring subcontract packages, preparing subcontract orders and assessing subcontractor applications.

* Ability to manage project budgets, track costs and produce reliable financial forecasts.

* Experience identifying, pricing and negotiating variations.

* Confident negotiation skills when working with clients, developers, suppliers and subcontractors.

* Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and proficiency in Excel and relevant commercial software.

* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with project delivery teams.

* Ability to manage multiple projects, meet contractual deadlines and work independently.

* Willingness to travel nationally and stay overnight when required.

Desirable (Not Essential)

Ideally an M&E background, with experience of civil engineering works associated with solar farm construction.

Experience on solar rooftop, utility-scale solar farm, BESS or grid infrastructure projects.

Understanding of the commercial interfaces between electrical installations and civil engineering works.

Background working with ICP or EPC contractors, specialist M&E contractors or renewable energy developers.

Familiarity with commonly used construction contracts, including JCT and NEC.

A qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

RICS membership or progress towards professional accreditation.

Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management of renewable energy projects, working directly with the director as the business expands its solar farm and clean energy portfolio across the UK
