Project Surveyor – Main Contractor

Location: Harlow, Essex

Salary: Up to £75,000 + package, depending on experience

Position: Permanent, Site-Based

The Opportunity

An established main contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Project Surveyor to join its team on a commercial refurbishment project in Harlow.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Surveyor to take a key role in the financial management and delivery of a refurbishment scheme, working closely with the site team and reporting directly to the Managing Surveyor.

The successful candidate will have a strong main contracting background, with experience managing subcontractor packages, cost control and commercial reporting. This role would suit someone looking to take ownership of their commercial responsibilities within a supportive project team.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day commercial aspects of the project, ensuring costs are controlled and financial targets are achieved.

Procure, negotiate and manage subcontractor packages from initial enquiry through to final account.

Prepare and administer subcontract orders, payments and variations.

Undertake cost reporting, forecasting and financial analysis.

Monitor project expenditure, identify commercial risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

Manage valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.

Assess variations and manage change control in accordance with contractual requirements.

Work closely with the Project Manager, site team and Managing Surveyor to support the successful delivery of the project.

Maintain accurate commercial records and provide regular financial updates.

Ensure commercial procedures are followed and project budgets are effectively managed throughout the construction process.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience as a Project Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor.

Strong experience in subcontract procurement, commercial management and cost control.

Experience managing subcontractor accounts, variations and final accounts.

A good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.

Previous experience working on commercial refurbishment projects would be advantageous.

Strong negotiation, communication and organisational skills.

A proactive and commercially focused approach, with the ability to work effectively within a site-based team.
