Quantity Surveyor – Hertfordshire
Salary: £65,000–£75,000
Location: Hertfordshire
Working hours: 8.30 am–5.30 pm

This is an opportunity to join a mid-sized, family-owned main contractor with more than 40 years’ experience delivering new build, design and build, refurbishment and fit-out projects. The business works across commercial, community and leisure, healthcare, hospitality, retail and other public and private sector schemes, typically valued between £1m and £15m.
You will join an experienced commercial team of six, with low staff turnover and high morale. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the workload is strong, and the company has continued to grow while keeping a hands-on, approachable feel. You will work from modern, light offices in a central Hertfordshire location with plenty of parking.
You will be office-based with site visits, managing a couple of schemes simultaneously from the commercial lead-in through to final account.
The right person will be able to come in, take ownership of their schemes and run them independently, while working closely with the wider commercial and operational teams. There is flexibility for a degree of hybrid working
Key Responsibilities
* Take commercial responsibility for a couple of live construction schemes at the same time.
* Manage procurement, subcontractor packages and tender enquiries.
* Prepare valuations, variations, cost reports and cash-flow forecasts.
* Monitor project costs, programme implications and commercial risk.
* Manage subcontractor accounts through to agreement of final accounts.
* Work closely with project teams to keep schemes commercially controlled and on budget.
* Provide clear commercial updates to senior management.
About You
* At least five years’ experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction.
* A construction-related qualification such as an HNC, HND, degree or equivalent.
* Confident managing more than one scheme at a time.
* Able to work independently and take full ownership of projects.
* Strong commercial awareness and a practical understanding of construction contracts.
* Organised, reliable and comfortable dealing with site teams, subcontractors and clients.
