Quantity Surveyor
Location: Durham or Bernicia HQ, Ashington, with travel to project sites
Salary: £52,621 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Client: Bernicia Group
Bernicia Group is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its Asset and Property team. You will support the commercial management of planned investment and construction projects across its housing portfolio, helping to maintain financial control, administer contracts and deliver value for money.
This opportunity may suit a Quantity Surveyor working for a housing provider, construction contractor or consultancy. Direct social housing experience is desirable, but candidates with relevant construction and planned works experience are encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities
* Administer contracts, including applications for payment, valuations, variations, certification and final accounts.
* Support procurement and tendering through the preparation and review of work scopes, tender documents and pricing schedules.
* Monitor project budgets, cashflow, completions, contractor performance and commercial outcomes.
* Visit sites regularly to assess work in progress and its commercial impact.
* Identify commercial and operational risks, report concerns and help develop practical solutions.
* Attend pre-start, progress, partnership and commercial meetings with contractors and internal stakeholders.
* Maintain accurate commercial records and support improvements to asset and contract management processes.
* Consider value for money and social value when assessing project delivery.
Essential requirements
* Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the construction sector.
* Experience of procurement, project management, contract administration and managing substantial budgets.
* Ability to interpret financial and project information and make clear recommendations.
* Strong communication skills and experience working with construction professionals and other stakeholders.
* Chartered status, a relevant degree or demonstrable relevant experience at a comparable level.
* A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, including site visits.
Desirable experience
* Working as a client-side Quantity Surveyor.
* Housing, planned maintenance or planned investment programmes.
* Knowledge of housing and construction regulation, including the Construction Act.
