Job Role: Quality Inspector
Salary: £31k - £34k
Role Overview
The Quality Inspector, reporting to the Head of QHSE, is tasked with conducting mechanical engineering inspections of precision machined components and fabricated parts to ensure they meet customer quality and specification requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
* Interpret engineering drawings, identify specified standards, verify final components meet specifications, and produce supporting documentation.
* Coordinate with engineering departments to prioritize workload based on delivery schedules and project deadlines.
* Identify non-conforming components, enabling corrective actions before delivery to customers.
* Conduct root-cause analysis for non-conformances (e.g., operator error, machine issues, incorrect materials) and implement preventative measures.
* Manage the calibration of all measuring tools, ensuring compliance with calibration tolerances and performing checks at appropriate intervals.
* Maintain accurate records to demonstrate measurement accuracy.
* Complete Inspection Reports and produce Certificates of Conformance for finished components.
* Advise and guide managers and colleagues on quality issues to ensure compliance with ISO14001 and ISO9001 standards by adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
* Collaborate with the business and customers on product and process investigations to identify problems and develop solutions.
* Maintain a clean, tidy, and efficient inspection environment, applying good housekeeping principles.
* Perform any duties as requested by the Head of QHSE.
* Ensure unmarked parts are properly marked according to company requirements.
* Maintain company stock per manufacturer’s instructions, especially for perishable items.
* Assist other personnel with key tasks as requested.
* Comply with Health and Safety Management System requirements, ensuring others follow company policies and procedures.
* Ensure adherence to Environmental and Quality Management System requirements by working in line with company policies and procedures.
Key Skills
* In-depth understanding of ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.
* Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
* Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and conventions.
* Experience in weld and fabrication inspection.
* Familiarity with material specifications.
* Skilled in interpreting material test certificates to ensure specification compliance.
* Methodical approach with strong attention to detail.
* Solid understanding of engineering principles.
* Team player with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines under pressure.
Qualifications
* Relevant experience in mechanical engineering.
* Qualification in mechanical engineering (desirable).
* Competence in using a range of precision measuring equipment, including digital height gauges, hardness testers, shadow graphs, etc.
* Experience with LK or similar metrology arms (desirable).
* Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Excel
