Description:

Quality Engineer – Worcester | 40 Hours/Week, Day Shift

We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Worcester. This is a hands-on role supporting the inspection, testing, and quality assurance of mechanical and electromechanical assemblies and modular plant equipment.

You’ll work closely with production, engineering, welding, and project teams to make sure products meet drawing, specification, customer, and regulatory requirements. The role is suited to someone who is comfortable working on the shop floor, investigating problems, and communicating directly with customers and third-party inspectors.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out and coordinate incoming, in-process, and final inspections, ensuring work meets drawings, specifications, and approved quality standards.
Oversee and review NDT activities, including VT, PT/MT, RT, and UT, where applicable, and ensure findings are recorded and closed out effectively.
Maintain accurate material, component, welding, inspection, and test traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
Develop and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), quality plans, weld maps, inspection records, and NCR documentation.
Support pressure and leak testing, dimensional inspection, torque verification, electrical checks, and other project-specific testing requirements.
Review fabrication and assembly documentation, including P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, electrical schematics, datasheets, and manufacturing drawings.
Identify quality issues at source, investigate root causes, and work with relevant teams to implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Monitor defects, rework, NCRs, and inspection results to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Support first-pass yield, NCR closure, punch-list reduction, and test performance as key quality measures.
Work with customers and third-party inspectors to coordinate hold points, witness points, inspections, and approvals.
Provide practical guidance and coaching to production and fabrication teams on inspection requirements, quality standards, and testing procedures.
Ensure inspection and test equipment is correctly maintained, calibrated, and suitable for use.
Contribute to maintaining and improving the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Experience & Skills

Practical experience in mechanical or electromechanical fabrication, manufacturing, or modular plant construction.
Strong understanding of fabrication and assembly quality requirements.
Ability to confidently interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, electrical schematics, and technical datasheets.
Experience with dimensional inspection and precision measurement equipment.
Practical knowledge of pressure testing, torque verification, basic electrical testing, and inspection techniques.
Good understanding of welding quality and NDT processes.
Knowledge and practical experience working within an ISO 9001 QMS.
Experience raising, investigating, and closing NCRs, with a structured approach to root-cause analysis and corrective action.
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both shop-floor teams and external customers.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and taking a hands-on approach to quality.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering discipline.
Six Sigma Green Belt or experience using SPC, CAPA, 8D, or other structured improvement methodologies.
Familiarity with PED/UKCA requirements, ASME B31.x, EN piping standards, and pressure systems.
Knowledge of ATEX requirements.
Experience with BMS, I/O checks, FATs, and electrical/mechanical commissioning activities.
Previous experience in aerospace, automotive, process engineering, energy, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Welding or NDT-related qualifications would be beneficial.

Systems & Equipment

You will work with a range of engineering and quality tools, including:

Autodesk Inventor / Plant 3D
Navisworks
Microsoft Office 365
Calibrated dimensional and pressure measurement equipment
Torque tools
Multimeters and insulation resistance testers
Inspection and test documentation systems

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will help ensure products leave the facility right first time, fully documented, tested, and ready for customer acceptance.

Key measures will include:

First-pass yield
NCR closure time and recurrence
Reduction in rework and defects
Punch-list completion
Successful, leak-free pressure testing
Inspection and documentation accuracy
CAPA effectiveness
Customer and third-party inspection outcomes

The Role

This is a 40-hour-per-week, day-shift position based in Worcester. It offers the opportunity to take ownership of quality across the manufacturing process rather than focusing solely on final inspection.

You’ll have a visible role within the wider engineering and production team, with opportunities to contribute to process improvement, develop your technical knowledge, and take on greater responsibility as the business grows.
