We are recruiting for a Documentation Officer to join an established microbiology laboratory based in Derbyshire.

This is a role combining quality, documentation and technical microbiology, making it an opportunity for an experienced laboratory microbiologist looking to move into a position with greater involvement in investigations, compliance, reporting and technical support.

Working within a GMP and ISO 17025 environment, you will support the day-to-day quality and compliance of the laboratory while remaining involved in microbiological testing when required.

The role

Key responsibilities will include:

* Managing and supporting quality event investigations, including non-conformances, OOS investigations, CAPAs, change controls, complaints and risk assessments

* Generating, reviewing and approving laboratory test reports

* Reviewing and authorising laboratory data

* Carrying out data trending and identifying potential issues or areas for improvement

* Preparing and reviewing SOPs, test methods and other controlled laboratory documentation

* Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to laboratory staff

* Supporting the scheduling and prioritisation of test samples

* Liaising directly with customers regarding technical and testing requirements

* Supporting microbiological testing and plate reading as required

* Ensuring laboratory activities are performed in accordance with GMP and ISO 17025 requirements

* Supporting customer visits and third-party events

About you

We are looking for someone with:

* A degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology or a related discipline. BTEC or equivalent qualifications may also be considered alongside relevant experience

* Previous experience working within a microbiology laboratory to UKAS/GMP standards (either or both considered)

* A good understanding of laboratory quality and documentation requirements

* Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills

* Excellent attention to detail

* Good written and verbal communication skills

* The confidence to provide technical support and communicate directly with customers

This position would particularly suit someone with microbiology testing experience and a quality focus, or someone looking to develop further within quality, compliance, investigations and laboratory documentation.
