Role Purpose

To ensure the company’s safety, health, environment and quality management systems are being properly implemented, and support the continuous improvement of those systems to maintain compliance with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards. This role provides quality assurance expertise within the wider SHEQ team.

SHEQ team members, Construction Director, Commercial and Business Systems Director, Operations Director, and other Senior Managers, Project and Site Management staff, clients, subcontractors, consultants

Accountabilities

* Ensure that the Company Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies are always complied with, putting safety above all other considerations

* Assist the SHEQ Manager in the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Company’s SHEQ Policies and Integrated Management System (IMS), with particular focus on compliance with ISO 9001 and the Building Safety Act

* Advise the SHEQ Manager and Directors on setting policies in relation to quality assurance matters, having regard to legislative requirements and best practice

* Provide support to the SHEQ Manager to ensure the Company’s management system continues to be accredited to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001

* Represent the Company in audits conducted by external auditors

* Contribute to the training and development of staff and supply chain members to continuously improve performance in relation to safety, health, environmental and quality matters, with a particular focus on quality

* Provide inductions to new Thomas Sinden staff on working under the TS Management System promptly upon their commencement

* Provide expert advice and guidance to project teams and senior managers on SHEQ matters, with a particular focus on quality management and quality assurance matters

* Conduct comprehensive site inspections and audits to verify adherence to Company and regulatory requirements, and identify opportunities for improvement. Document findings and chase completion of actions.

* Analyse audit findings and report on results to identify trends and opportunities for improvement

* Carry out assessment of subcontractor and consultant supply chain applications to ensure competence and that appropriate due diligence checks are carried out in relation to their health, safety, environmental and quality practices

* Assist the SHEQ Manager with production of reports to Senior Managers record keeping in relation to incidents and accidents to assist with management of any claims that may arise statutory reporting of incidents and accidents liaison with external authorities and independent auditors

* Set up project quality management systems to comply with Company and project specific quality assurance objectives and obligations

* Actively develop own knowledge and capabilities relevant to job role to keep up to date on best practice

Skills, Experience and Qualities

* Holds relevant qualifications in quality management, such as Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or equivalent professional qualifications.

* In depth knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality management systems, with experience in quality assurance auditing

* Understanding of health and safety, environment and sustainability requirements for construction projects

* Good technical construction knowledge

* Confident in leading meetings and audits

* Personable and pragmatic approach to advising on SHEQ matters in a construction or similarly complex environment

* Ability to work effectively both alone and within a team

* Analytical thinker and able to understand complex requirements

* Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with people of all levels from operative to Director

* Able to influence and intervene to resolve problems promptly to avoid unnecessary escalation

* Customer focused, with the ability to build strong lasting relationships with clients and teams

* Proficient at managing time and conflicting priorities

* Well organised with a disciplined approach to work and proficient at managing time and conflicting priorities

* Adept at using Information Technology including proficiency in data collection, recording, and reporting
