Jackson Hogg is recruiting on behalf of a leading defence sector manufacturer specialising in complex fabrications and end-to-end manufacturing capabilities. This is a permanent opportunity for an experienced Welding & Quality Inspector to join an established inspection team, working across fabrication and welding operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be a trusted partner responsible for ensuring all manufactured products in the fabrication and welding area fully conform to customer requirements. The work spans dimensional, visual, and NDT inspection from raw material goods-in through to in-process and final inspection. You will support non-conformance investigations, maintain product traceability, and contribute actively to quality improvement initiatives.
This is a role that carries real responsibility. You will be working to defence sector standards, where quality, accuracy, and attention to detail are non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities
* Dimensional, visual, and NDT inspection of fabricated and welded components
* Liaison with the engineering team to clarify inspection and testing requirements
* Goods inward inspection of raw materials, components, and associated certification
* In-process inspection and testing support to the production team
* Maintaining product traceability and compliance to required standards
* Quarantining and accurately reporting non-conforming parts
* Supporting problem-solving and root cause investigations
* Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and sharing best practice
What We're Looking For
We are recruiting at two levels depending on qualifications and experience:
Band 4 — uop to £21.60 per hour (Days)
* CSWIP 3.1 certified (essential)
* PCN Level 2 MPI (essential)
* PCN Level 2 Dye Pen (desirable)
* Able to lead complex inspection activities with minimal supervision
* Acts as a CI champion and takes ownership of their inspection area
* Competent in weld wire booking and complex inspection processes
Band 3 — £18.97/hr
* CSWIP 3.0 or working towards CSWIP 3.1
* PCN Level 2 MPI and/or DPI (fully competent)
* Capable of mentoring new team members
* Shows initiative, escalates appropriately, and actively contributes to improvement discussions
Across both levels, you will need:
* Relevant experience in a fabrication or welding inspection environment
* Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
* Competent with manual inspection equipment — tapes, rules, squares
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Self-motivated with a clear quality-focused mindset
* Ability to achieve the relevant security clearances required for defence sector work
