Job Purpose:
The key responsibilities of this role will include:
* Assembling working prototypes of miniature medical instruments.
* The instruments range in complexity from simple passive mechanical components to more complex electro-opto-mechanical assemblies.
* Working with a high degree of precision on parts that are only millimetres in size.
*Sourcing and interacting with external manufacturers as part of DFM optimisation.
*Sourcing and interacting with external assembly partners for volume production.
*Designing and performing tests to quantify the performance of the instruments.
*Determining critical features, dimensions, and tolerances necessary to achievefunctional requirements.
* Proposing, implementing, and testing design changes that improve the ease ofassembly, and ease of achieving alignment conformity during assembly.
* Designing and manufacturing jigs that aid the ease and quality of assembly.
* Performing research and design work on novel instrumentation concepts.
Essential Requirements
* Experience assembling miniature mechanical assemblies, ideally those includingkinematic, electronic and optical components.
* Comfort working on millimetre-scale assembles, with tolerances of 0.1 mm or less.
Desirable Skills and Abilities
* Experience with medical device design and/or assembly.
* Comfortable using CAD software and interpreting engineering drawings.
* Good understanding of the techniques employed in volume production.
* Capable of designing rigs to aid in product assembly.
* Proficient in using hand and power tools for assembly tasks.
* Basic knowledge of anatomy and keyhole surgery techniques.
* Excellent presentation and communication skills, mainly when communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
* Ability to self-motivate when working independently; prioritise tasks, and work effectively to manage and meet deadlines.
