Description:

Proposals Engineer
Gloucester
£30,000 - £40,000
Permanent

A growing specialist engineering business is looking for a Proposals Engineer to join its established sales team. Due to continued growth in customer enquiries, this is an opportunity to join a busy technical environment where the focus is on developing accurate proposals rather than generating new leads.

This is a predominantly office-based role with a strong technical focus. You will interpret customer requirements, specifications and P&IDs, develop equipment solutions and work closely with engineering, design, production and project teams to establish costs, lead times and technical requirements.

The Proposals Engineer will have the opportunity to develop specialist technical and commercial expertise, making this a long-term career opportunity for someone who enjoys engineering, problem-solving and working directly with customers.

Key Responsibilities

Review customer enquiries, data sheets, specifications, P&IDs and commercial requirements.
Develop accurate technical and commercial proposals for engineered equipment packages.
Liaise with engineering and design teams to establish suitable equipment configurations.
Select appropriate materials, flow-control, sealing, cooling and instrumentation systems.
Perform calculations covering equipment sizing, gas densities, pressure losses, flows, power and torque.
Prepare supplier RFQs and estimate material, labour and manufacturing costs.
Prepare technical and commercial deviations and clarifications.
Maintain bid records, follow up opportunities and support customer meetings and project handovers.
Skills & Knowledge Required

Degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, physical science, engineering or mathematics.
Experience working within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Ability to read P&IDs and other engineering documentation.
Knowledge of fluid-handling equipment and/or rotating machinery.
Strong numerical ability and confidence working with technical data.
Previous proposals, estimating or internal technical sales experience is desirable.
Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
