Description:
Project Sales Manager (Critical Power)
If you’ve spent years selling generator projects into someone else’s sales machine, here’s the chance to build your own.
The business is an employee-owned standby power specialist established for over 25 years with around 40 people, ECA accreditation, and installation, controls and commissioning all in house. Around a 12 months ago it branched into project sales under its own name and has already landed work at hospital sites across Essex, a 2MVA set for a major hospital trust, and a 500kVA set for a research centre. Now it needs someone to lead that growth full time.
This is a blank canvas. You’d be the first person to build this part of the business, reporting straight to the Director.
What you’ll do
* Own every enquiry from first conversation to quote to order, then hand the secured project to the in-house delivery team
* Sell single generator sets through to multiple-set projects from £50,000 to c£2m, plus control packages built in house
* Build relationships with M&E contractors and consultants first, then local authorities, healthcare, industrial, pharma, retail and smaller data centres
* Prepare your own quotations, with the MD and your line manager alongside on complex ones
* Work home-based across the South of England and Midlands, with London and the Home Counties at the core, and visit head office in Essex about once a month
This is new business only. You won’t inherit accounts, and there’s no estimating team behind you, so you build your own quotes with technical support.
What you’ll bring
* Project or turnkey sales experience in generators, gas engines and CHP, UPS, battery, controls or acoustics
* A hunter’s drive, with a conversion record to back it up
* Enough electrical knowledge to hold credible conversations with consultants and M&E contractors
* Comfort running your own diary and travelling regularly
* Earlier in your sales career? Industry or technical grounding and the right personality will be considered
Where this takes you
* A clear route to Sales Director: deliver, and you build and lead the sales team beneath you, planned over a 3 -5 year period
* A say in the direction: your feedback on pricing, competitors and investment shapes the offering
* Training and backing: product awareness training on Deep Sea Electronics and ComAp, support from the generator manufacturers
* Proof to sell with: hospital projects delivered and in delivery, and customers can see the equipment and acceptance testing at head office
* A business that’s employee owned, funds its own projects, and is still small enough that everyone knows each other by first name
The package
* Competitive basic salary, set by your experience
* Bonus and speerate commission scheme linked to business generated
* Company car or car allowance
* Laptop, mobile phone and credit card for customer entertaining
* Private healthcare through AXA, paid for by the company
* Workplace pension, life assurance and death in service cover
* 22 days’ holiday rising to 27, plus bank holidays, and company sick pay
* Tax-free employee ownership bonus of up to £3,600 after your first full year, depending on company performance
