Cranleigh STEM is working with a leading provider of hydrogen fuel cell power systems to generate clean energy in support of the global energy transition.

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 (DOE)

The Role…

The role of Project Quality Engineer will involve working in a position of responsibility, helping to lead a cross-functional, highly motivated, dynamic, and rapidly growing team of engineers.

The role will include the expectation to work on a wide variety of tasks which will primarily involve Engineering Project management for the primary implementation of a quality system. Key knowledge, skills and experience are required in:

Engineering project management for ISO 9001:2015 implementation.
High-level organisation of the Quality Management System
Setting up requisite controls for processes and documentation controls.
Providing high-level guidance and support to the quality, design and project engineering teams.
Process optimisation for initial roll-out across the business units.A major focus of the role will be to provide strong linkage between the quality, design and project management teams and ensure consistent communications, sharing of information and document management controls.

Key Responsibilities

Assisting with the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 and identifying and introducing key requirements and deliverables. Specifically supporting developing and implementing continuous improvement strategies and initiatives.
Providing solutions against the above for project delivery. Activities can include:
Leading cross-functional teams and coordinating activities.
Supporting the quality engineering function to achieve success.
Supporting the quality engineer in setting up process requirements.
Develop strategies to measure and monitor the cost of quality and introduce product improvement initiatives.
Take ownership and develop best-in-class engineering practices and processes within the team.
Support implementation of department systems, standards, and procedures and understand and comply with relevant International Standards.
Be able to support inputs to other areas of the business (for example production and manufacturing engineering), as required.
Coach and mentor team members where required in ISO disciplines and methodologies.
Undertake additional aspects of standard project management as required for:
Leading engineering reviews and stage-gate meetings.
Coordinating technical and process design inputs.
Establishing project costs and capital equipment plans.
Creating and expediting project time plans, milestones and deliverables.
Undertake ownership and accountability of all above, against set performance targets reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Understand design requirements and identification of risk areas through tools such as HAZOP, HAZID and DFMEA methodologies.
Have a firm understanding of design fundamentals, including manufacturing process optimisation through methodologies such as Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacture (DFA/DFM).
Be able to liaise effectively with procurement teams for supplier development and onboarding.
Skills and Experience

Degree (or equivalent), in a relevant mechanical or industrial engineering discipline (ideally 2:1 or above), with an appreciable level of industrial experience in the project management in the design and development of mechanical and packaging solutions.
Able to demonstrate prior expertise in an environment of design, manufacturing, and process methods.
Knowledge of 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software packages an advantage. (specifically, Solidworks) and/or other software systems for document management control.
Good grasp of engineering design verification approaches and able to define methods and means of control.
Effective communicator. Able to present appropriate, concise, and accurate information in both written and verbal formats.
Capable of progressing tasks autonomously with a minimum of supervision.
Able to support all aspects of project management and planning. Setting and directing work effectively to ensure deadlines are met.
