Help us improve homes across Stevenage

We are looking to recruit two experienced and motivated Project Managers to join our Major Works Delivery Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering our planned housing investment programmes, helping to maintain and improve the quality, safety and condition of homes across Stevenage.

About the role
As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing and delivering planned maintenance and improvement projects across the Council's housing stock.
Our programmes cover a wide range of works, including kitchen and bathroom replacements, heating upgrades, roofing works and other planned improvements. You will need to be flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage different types of projects in response to changing service priorities.
You will oversee projects from procurement and planning through to delivery and completion, ensuring works are completed safely, to a high standard, on time and within budget.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Managing planned maintenance and capital improvement projects across the Council's housing portfolio.
• Overseeing procurement, contract administration, budgets and project programmes.
• Managing contractors and consultants, ensuring quality, performance and value for money.
• Monitoring project risks, costs and progress, taking appropriate action to address issues.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including CDM Regulations and health and safety requirements.
• Working closely with residents, leaseholders and internal teams to ensure effective communication throughout project delivery.
• Providing direction and support to allocated staff, including Clerks of Works and Technical Support Officers.

About you
We are looking for experienced professionals who have a strong understanding of building construction and refurbishment, particularly within a housing or planned maintenance environment.
You will have:
• Experience of managing large-scale, multi-trade construction or refurbishment projects from a client-side perspective.
• Strong technical knowledge of building construction and associated regulations.
• Experience of managing project budgets, programmes and contractors.
• Knowledge of construction contracts, including JCT.
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to different project requirements.
• Relevant construction industry experience and/or qualifications in building construction or engineering.

Professional membership of RICS or CIOB, or a recognised project management qualification, would be advantageous.

Why join us?
You will be joining a team responsible for delivering essential improvements to council homes, helping to ensure residents benefit from safe, well-maintained and high-quality housing.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of varied projects, work alongside experienced colleagues and make a real difference to our housing stock and the communities we serve.
