An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to join an established civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Pontypridd.

The company delivers a range of civil engineering, groundworks and infrastructure projects for local authority clients across South Wales, and is looking for a Project Manager who can take responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to successful completion.

This is a hands-on role suited to a commercially aware Project Manager who enjoys being involved in the detail of project delivery, while also having the opportunity to contribute to pre-construction, planning, programming and client management.

Responsibilities

* Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of civils and groundworks projects from pre-construction through to completion.

* Work closely with clients, local authorities, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered to the required standards.

* Become involved in projects during the pre-construction and tender stages, supporting planning, methodology, buildability and resource requirements.

* Develop, manage and update detailed project programmes, ensuring key milestones and delivery dates are achieved.

* Monitor project progress against programme, identifying potential delays and implementing appropriate mitigation measures.

* Prepare regular project reports, progress reports and client updates, ensuring management and stakeholders have clear visibility of project performance.

* Manage project resources, site teams, subcontractors, plant and materials to ensure efficient delivery.

* Provide leadership and support to Site Managers, Engineers and wider project teams.

* Monitor project costs, budgets, variations and commercial performance in conjunction with the commercial team.

* Identify and manage project risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.

* Attend and lead project meetings with clients and stakeholders.

* Manage changes, variations and client instructions throughout the project lifecycle.

* Review design information, specifications and construction methodologies, identifying potential issues before works commence.

Key Requirements

Essential

* Proven experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure.

* Experience delivering projects for local authorities, public sector clients or similar organisations.

* Strong understanding of civil engineering and groundworks construction.

* Experience developing and managing construction programmes.

* Strong report writing and project documentation skills.

* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and communicate effectively with clients.

* Commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs, variations and financial performance.

* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to lead and motivate site-based teams.

* Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

* HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.

* SMSTS or equivalent and CSCS qualification.

* Experience working under NEC, JCT or local authority contracts.

* Experience with highways, drainage, infrastructure or public realm projects.

* Experience contributing to pre-construction, tenders and project methodologies.

* Experience using planning/programming software.
