Description:

Are you an experienced Civil Engineer with a background in major new-build infrastructure projects?

Do you have experience in design assurance, technical compliance and the handover of complex civil engineering works?

Salary: £55,687.20 to £65,514.00 (including 20% flexible benefits allowance)
Location: Birmingham / West Midlands
Job Type: Permanent
Job title: Project Engineer

This is an excellent opportunity to join HS2, supporting the technical assurance and handover of major civil engineering works across the West Midlands, including bridges, viaducts, earthworks, highways and other complex infrastructure assets.

I am recruiting for multiple Project Engineers to support Senior Project Engineers in managing design assurance, technical queries and engineering evidence, ensuring completed civil works meet the required standards before being handed over to rail systems contractors.

You'll work closely with major civil engineering contractors, design consultants and technical specialists, coordinating engineering information and resolving technical issues across complex project interfaces.

This is not a hands-on design or construction site management role. The focus is on technical coordination, design assurance and ensuring the correct engineering evidence and documentation is in place to support the successful handover of completed assets.

Essential:

Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Strong civil engineering background gained on major new-build infrastructure projects, such as bridges, viaducts, earthworks, highways or tunnels.
Experience in design assurance, technical assurance, engineering compliance or the close-out and handover of civil engineering works.
Good understanding of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer responsibilities.
Experience reviewing technical documentation, verifying engineering evidence and coordinating design information.
Ability to manage technical queries and coordinate responses between contractors, designers and technical specialists.
Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex infrastructure projects.
Working towards Chartered Engineer status, with a clear ambition to achieve chartership and progress professionally.
Desirable Experience

Experience on major infrastructure programmes such as HS2, Hinkley Point C or other large-scale civil engineering projects.
Background in engineering consultancy, design coordination or major civil engineering contracting.
Experience managing departures from standards, technical risks and engineering assurance processes.
Experience coordinating handover documentation and as-built engineering records.
Understanding of interfaces between civil engineering works and rail systems installations.
Experience using digital document management systems such as ProjectWise.
Chartered Engineer status or close to achieving chartership.
This is an opportunity to join HS2 during a significant phase of civil engineering assurance and handover, with several vacancies available across the West Midlands.

The role offers long-term career development, exposure to technically complex infrastructure and a clear opportunity to progress towards Senior Project Engineer level.
