Our client is a well-established engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke machinery and systems for industrial applications. Due to an increase in projects, they are looking to add an experienced Project Engineer to their engineering team.
This is a hands-on design and project engineering position where you'll take ownership of projects from initial concept and design through to manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning.
The Role
Working closely with the Projects, Sales and Manufacturing teams, you'll be responsible for designing bespoke machinery and plant layouts, including integrating new equipment into existing customer facilities.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Producing 2D and 3D General Arrangement drawings and system layouts
Designing using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Designing sheet metal fabrications and components for heavy industrial machinery
Integrating conveyors, structures and other equipment with third-party machinery
Developing designs around existing customer equipment and space restrictions
Optimising layouts to improve material flow, space utilisation and overall process efficiency
Producing detailed manufacturing drawings from 3D models
Creating and releasing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Taking ownership of engineering projects from concept through to manufacture and commissioning
Working closely with customers, suppliers, Project Engineers, Sales and Manufacturing teams
Producing technical specifications and supporting documentation
Attending customer sites to take/check measurements and support installation and commissioning
Reviewing existing designs and suggesting improvements to manufacturing methods, cost and performance Minimum Skills / Experience Required:
Strong previous experience within Project Engineering, Mechanical Design or a similar engineering position
Advanced SolidWorks experience is essential
Experience producing General Arrangement drawings and system layouts
Experience designing sheet metal/fabricated components
Previous exposure to special purpose machinery, conveyors, heavy machinery or industrial equipment
Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and BOMs
Good understanding of the make-to-order design process
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Able to consider safety, regulations and practical manufacturing requirements throughout the design process
Confident communicating with customers, suppliers and internal engineering/manufacturing teams
Experience within recycling equipment or materials handling would be highly advantageous
Structural design experience would be advantageous but is not essential The Package

UK customer site visits approximately once every fortnight at most, depending on project requirements This is a great opportunity for a Project Engineer who enjoys more than simply sitting behind a CAD screen. You'll be involved in the full engineering lifecycle, seeing your designs progress from initial concept through manufacturing and ultimately into a working installation at the customer's site.
