Senior Technical Product Manager – Digital Platform / Digital service
Location: London – hybrid, 2 days onsite per week
Contract: 6 months initially
Rate: Circa £700 per day, Inside IR35

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Product Manager / Product Owner to take ownership of complex backend platforms, digital services and technical capabilities.
You will work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Data, Security and DevOps teams to define product strategy, manage technical roadmaps and deliver scalable, secure and reliable backend services. This is a technical/backend-focused product role, rather than a primarily customer-facing or UX/product growth position.

Key responsibilities

Own the product vision, strategy and roadmap for backend platforms and technical services.
Translate business and technical requirements into epics, user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised backlogs.
Own product requirements across APIs, backend services, integrations and platform capabilities.
Lead discovery and technical definition for complex platform initiatives.
Balance new functionality against technical debt, scalability, security, performance and reliability.
Manage dependencies across engineering teams, systems, platforms and third-party suppliers.
Support platform modernisation, system integration and legacy transformation initiatives.
Work with Data and Engineering teams across cloud platforms, databases and distributed systems.
Ensure appropriate security, architecture, governance and non-functional requirements are incorporated into delivery.
Define success measures and monitor platform performance, reliability and product outcomes.
Lead Agile product delivery, including backlog refinement, prioritisation and sprint planning.
Communicate complex technical trade-offs and risks clearly to senior stakeholders.Key experience

Strong experience as a Technical Product Manager, Technical Product Owner, Product Owner or similar within a software engineering environment.
Proven experience owning products at the backend/platform layer, including backend platforms, APIs, backend services, integrations or enterprise technical systems.
Strong understanding of software development and Agile delivery.
Experience working directly with Software Engineers, Architects and Technical Leads.
Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, cloud platforms, databases and/or distributed systems.
Experience managing technical roadmaps, backlogs, requirements and prioritisation.
Demonstrable experience balancing product delivery with technical debt, scalability, security, performance and reliability.
Experience with platform transformation, legacy modernisation or complex system integration.
Strong stakeholder management and ability to communicate technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical audiences.
