Product Development Engineer – Permanent Position
Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience + Benefits
Location: Westhill, Aberdeenshire
 
About the opportunity
This role, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager and Technical Director, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the development of cutting-edge products from concept to market release.  The holder will be responsible for leading the conceptualisation and design of new products.  This organisation works across a number of key industries including military, construction and nuclear having built strong relationships and reputation over a number of years.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead conceptualisation and design of new products, working closely with the Engineering Manager and Technical Director to align designs with strategic objectives.
Utilise advanced CAD software (e.g. Solidworks) to create a detailed, precision-engineered product design
Oversea the development of prototypes, coordinating with manufacturing and testing teams
Conduct thorough testing and validation of prototypes.
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including process engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing, ensuring alignment with overall project goals.
Regularly update managers on project progress, challenges, and proposed solutions.
Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes to ensure optimal performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
Collaborate with procurement to select cost-effective materials without compromising quality.
Ensure all products comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and certifications.
Work closely with regulatory affairs teams to obtain necessary approvals.
Collaborate with the departments across the company to identify cost-effective solutions while maintaining high-quality standards.
Maintain detailed documentation of design specifications, test results, and project progress.
Provide regular reports, highlighting key milestones and challenges.
Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing ideas to enhance product development processes, reduce time-to-market, and improve overall efficiency.  
To be successful in this role, you will need:

Degree / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
Proven experience in product development within the engineering or manufacturing industry.
Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other relevant design tools.
Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Familiarity with regulatory standards and certification processes.
