Introduction

Are you a creative and technically minded Design Engineer looking to play a key role in the development of innovative manufactured products?

Our client is seeking a Design Engineer to join their growing product development team, offering the opportunity to take projects from initial concept through to production within a collaborative engineering environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining product innovation with practical manufacturing considerations. Working closely with colleagues across production, quality, purchasing and wider product development functions, you'll contribute to the successful launch of new products while ensuring designs are commercially viable, manufacturable and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

Developing new products from initial concept through to production release.

Producing 3D models, technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.

Ensuring designs are optimised for efficient, repeatable and cost-effective manufacture.

Working closely with manufacturing teams to incorporate practical production considerations into product designs.

Assessing design risks and supporting continuous improvement throughout the development process.

Participating in design reviews and collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the business.

Supporting prototype development, testing activities and pre-production builds.

Maintaining accurate product information and supporting engineering documentation.

Essential Requirements

Degree qualified in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Previous experience within a product design, mechanical design or new product development environment.

Strong understanding of engineering design principles and manufacturing processes.

Experience producing 3D CAD models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.

Good understanding of sheet metal design, materials and tolerance considerations.

Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering documentation.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.

Desirable Requirements

Experience supporting new product introduction projects.

Knowledge of FMEA, design verification or validation processes.

Experience using Solid Edge or similar CAD software.

Experience with fold simulation software and sheet metal manufacturing processes.

Knowledge of PDM, PLM or ERP systems.

Understanding of Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.

Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
